✅ 1) Understand why you have been asked to present to the board, and
what your presentation is expected to achieve. Ensure your presentation
will do that.
✅ 2) Make sure your presentation will help the board to achieve its primary aim, that is making the right decisions on
behalf of the shareholders or according to the mission of the founders,
in the case of a non-profit.
✅ 3) Make it easy for them to form a group decision
✅ 4) Time your presentation in an optimum way so that the main issue is presented even if your allocated time is cut by 20%.
✅ 5) Prior to your presentation send briefs to the board members so that they are "up to speed" when you start presenting.
✅ 6) Make your presentation in a discussion style. Summarize first, then, facilitate discussion.
✅ 7) Provide top quality information, with sources and references.
✅ 8) Set the level of your presentation at an appropriate level, either
in terms of general understanding of the information or regarding the
risks level potentially involved. The board needs to understand what are
the best and the worst possible outcomes.
✅ 9) Punctuality, politeness and good manners will always play in your favor and
contribute building your credibility as a presenter.
