Here are my favourite tips to help you manage your emotions during an important speech,
especially when you feel the pressure of being intensely looked at by many pairs of eyes.
You certainly have been through the experience of delivering an important
speech and during the process feeling some emotion or a full range of them.
Whatever the cause(s) of this emotion, it is important to find ways of managing it in order to deliver your message properly and in the most comfortable manner for you.
β
1) Weeks before, when you rehearse your speech, always visualize yourself doing a very successful job with audience cheerfully applauding you at the very end.
This has the benefit of installing in your brain a paradigm of success associated with your speech.
β
2) Work on your breathing, and realize that deep breathing a few
seconds before speaking has the effect of lowering the amount of CO2 in your lungs and slowing down your heartbeat, which impacts positively your brain to instill calm and clarity.
β
3) This is my favourite tip. Do not consider anymore a speech delivered in public as "public
speaking" but rather as a sharing with friends, of valuable information
in a conversation style.
This is the ultimate paradigm shift of public speaking that I inculcate in my clients. π
